Galleri Lene Bilgrav
16.01 - 28.02.2026

The exhibition features 16 contemporary artists showing works that are in dialogue with works by the Danish artist Inge Ellegaard (1953-2010). The artists have been free to choose which work or theme by Inge Ellegaard they wanted to be inspired by.

The exhibition shows paintings, graphics and ceramics by the 16 invited artists as well as paintings and graphics by Inge Ellegaard. The invited artists are Svend-Allan Sørensen, Ditte Lyngkær, Nanna Riis Andersen, Birgitte Støvring, Lars Worm, Anders Christian Eriksen, Katrine Hvid, Signe Jais, Christina Augustesen, Astrid Marie Christiansen, Lars Sarto Hempler, Mikkel Kaldal, Peter Callesen, Luna Lund Jensen, Mariko Wada and Anna Sørensen.

Inge Ellegaard (1953-2010) was a Danish painter. She belonged to the group of artists who broke through in the early 1980s, who became known as De Unge Vilde. Inge Ellegaard’s artistic work is characterized by an expressive style with an often very distinctive color palette. She had a strong interest in specific motifs, which are often developed in long series of works. She has painted numerous roses and amaryllis, but also stripes and checks, which were sometimes background patterns and other times the motif itself.

“Through my work with the Inge Ellegaard Estate, I have experienced that there are many artists who admire and respect Inge Ellegaard. I often hear her described as an “uncompromising and genuine painter”. That is why I thought it would be interesting to let different contemporary artists enter into dialogue with Inge Ellegaard’s works. Because artists have a special way of looking. They often see something that the rest of us don’t,” says Lene Bilgrav.
