Earthenware

Galleri Lene Bilgrav
2022

At the exhibition Earthenware, Nanna Riis Andersen shows several completely new paintings and works in ceramics. Nanna Riis Andersen works in a predominantly abstract artistic language with references to something recognizable. Her color-saturated and detailed picture universe often has many layers and overlaps that create complex spaces. These are works that are open and they reach out to the outside world. The focal point of this exhibition is the body and the jar, and the concepts we associate with them. However, we only see hints of these forms because Nanna Riis Andersen is not interested in a direct depiction. Instead, it is the intermediate stages and transitions that interest her. Therefore, forms are only hinted at, and they seem to be somewhere between wholeness and dissolution, and between the fleeting and the retained.
